Christmas is coming but the turkey on the table at Jockey Club Estates may be a little smaller than usual following the retirement of Newmarket stalwart Luca Cumani.

The former trainer has turned his attentions away from the heath and towards the paddocks as he focuses on his family’s Fittocks Stud, leaving those responsible for managing the gallops in Newmarket potentially out of pocket.

As well as paying heath tax of £124.60 per month plus VAT per horse, Cumani was also a serial user of the special watered gallop on Racecourse Side which costs £22.55 per horse plus VAT. A not inconsiderable sum when added together.
