Warwick exploring options to ensure travellers are unable to return
The large group of travellers who occupied the owners' and trainers' car park at Warwick's last fixture have been moved on, with officials at the course keen to avoid a repeat for Monday's meeting.
Earlier in December around 30 caravans and 80-100 people descended on the car park, which is a public pay-and-display facility owned by Warwick District Council.
The travellers remained in the car park for over two weeks, but were ejected on Friday.
Clerk of the course Jane Hedley said on Sunday: "There will not be any travellers on site, we got rid of them on Friday. They've gone and we will take measures to ensure they don't return tonight."
Stratford Leisure Centre is believed to be the next destination for the travellers, and the racecourse is working with the council to make sure they cannot access the car park at the course again.
"It was very messy, there was quite a clean-up operation on Friday and it's back to where we'd expect," Hedley added.
"We're talking to the council about more permanent solutions but there's some big old chains round the gates for now and we'll make sure there's not a problem tonight.
"It's a public car park so on non-racedays there are public cars in there and it's not like we can lock it down when we go home. It had never been a problem before so that's why there weren't any stronger measures in place but we'll look at taking steps to make it a more secure car park."
