Vintage Clouds may test Grand National credentials in Haydock trial
Runaway Peter Marsh Chase winner Vintage Clouds is one of 15 possible contenders for the Unibet Grand National Trial (3.15) at Haydock on Saturday.
Sue Smith's grey, who returned to form with a fine round of jumping at the track last month, could again reoppose 2018 Welsh National hero Elegant Escape after both were left in at the confirmation stage.
The progressive Lord Du Mesnil, an easy winner of the Tommy Whittle and The Last Fling Chases at the Merseyside course, could represent the in-form Richard Hobson.
Leading juveniles Goshen and Navajo Pass are among 13 entries for the Unibet Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle (2.40), a race won by the likes of Top Notch and Frodon in previous years.
Haydock also stages the Grade 2 Rendlesham Hurdle (2.05), in which Long Walk winner The Worlds End faces a possible rematch with L'Ami Serge, while Emitom and Unowhatimeanharry could also feature. Lisnagar Oscar has also been entered, who finished third to Paisley Park last month.
Lisnagar Oscar landed last year's Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Prestige Novices' Hurdle (4.25) and The Big Breakaway may look to replicate that effort for Colin Tizzard. The five-year-old could take on Ramses De Teillee.
Grade 2 winners Danny Whizzbang and Sam Brown head seven entered for the Sodexo Reynoldstown Novices' Chase (1.50) at Ascot. Copperhead and the Nicky Henderson-trained Pym are also entered in a competitive-looking field.
Black Corton could line up in the Listed Keltbray Swinley Chase (2.25), with Charlie Hall winner Ballyoptic a potential opponent.
Champion Hurdle clues may be on offer at Wincanton in the feature Betway Kingwell Hurdle (2.45), in which Fusil Raffles could attempt to get his campaign back on track after disappointing last time.
