Victoria Pendleton inspired a golden generation of female British Cycling talent and the two-time Olympic gold medallist believes Rachael Blackmore's Grand National victory can have a similar effect.

When Pendleton won the first of her nine World Championship titles, she was just the third British female in more than 40 years to claim a rainbow jersey. British Cycling has since become the dominant force in women's cycling and she believes it cannot be overstated just how significant Blackmore's Aintree success may prove to be.

"I was so excited and it gave me goosebumps," she said. "For women in sport, it's an incredible achievement and I'm hoping there are lots of young girls and work-riders looking up to her and aiming high after seeing it's possible. When you see somebody achieve something like that it makes it more tangible as something you might be able to do.
