Unbeaten Logician out to state his St Leger case in the Great Voltigeur
Logician will put his unbeaten record and St Leger credentials on the line against just four rivals in the Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes at York on Wednesday.
The Group 2 will bring some much-needed clarity to the William Hill-sponsored Classic with four of the five runners entered. Logician is a top price of 10-1 for the St Leger and second in the market behind ante-post favourite Japan, whose trainer Aidan O'Brien is represented at York by Constantinople and Norway.
Logician has not run since winning a Newbury handicap on July 4 off a mark of 90 at odds of 1-5 having won a Newmarket novice at 2-9 following a debut win in a Newbury maiden win in May.
The race's ante-post favourite still has something to find with his four rivals despite being raised 11lb for his Newbury success to a mark of 101.Nayef Road and Constantinople, first and second in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood earlier in the month, set the standard on BHA ratings.
Constantinople, beaten a neck by Nayef Road at Goodwood when giving the Mark Johnston-trained runner 3lb, reopposes off level weights.
Godolphin's Jalmoud is the only runner without a St Leger entry, having disappointed in the Gordon Stakes in a well-beaten seventh after finishing third to Japan in the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp.
