Un De Sceaux among the tasty treats at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday
Three-time Clarence House Chase hero Un De Sceaux will lock horns with fellow Grade 1 winner Coney Island in a tasty renewal of the Grade 2 Devenish Chase at Fairyhouse on Monday.
Watch: Un De Sceaux is beaten in the Ryanair Chase
Both runners are on something of a retrieval mission, having failed to perform to their very best last time out. Un De Sceaux, winner of an astonishing 20 of his 27 races under rules, came up short in the defence of his Ryanair Chase crown at Cheltenham last month, while Coney Island was a festival absentee having been pulled up in the Ascot Chase in February.
Elliott and Gigginstown launch all-out assault on Irish Grand National
Both feature among eight declarations, with Gordon Elliott set to field A Toi Phil and Doctor Phoenix, while Un De Sceaux’s Willie Mullins-trained stablemate Ballycasey also runs, as does Harry Fry’s Kylemore Lough.
Also on the BoyleSports Irish Grand National undercard, Getabird will bid to put a disappointing run at Cheltenham behind him in the Grade 2 Rathbarry & Glenview Studs Novice Hurdle.
A beaten favourite in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last month, Getabird faces competition from Grade 2 scorer Hardline, unexposed stablemate Sayar and Fred Winter winner Veneer Of Charm.
Another festival winner lines up in the Grade 2 Keelings Irish Strawberry Hurdle on the same card, with Coral Cup scorer Bleu Berry taking on the likes of Jezki, Augusta Kate and Let’s Dance in a humdinger.
