Two short-priced Guineas favourites - and one of them is begging to be taken on

This is the most exciting period of the Flat season. Classic dreams are still alive for many and there are any number of unexposed three-year-olds who could still become top-class horses.

However, when it comes to the 2,000 Guineas it doesn't pay to go for promise. Instead, proven form is the key and we can see that by examining the last ten runnings of the race.

If you had backed the top-rated horse in each of the last ten 2,000 Guineas you would have found four winners, while a further two winners went into Newmarket with either the second highest or joint-second highest BHA rating. A £1 bet on all 22 qualifiers has netted a profit of £5.75.
