Turner arguably lucky to escape with short suspension after betting rule breach

While her solicitor Rory Mac Neice argued there were "exceptional circumstances" to Hayley Turner's case and pleaded for a fine rather than a "wholly inappropriate" suspension or disqualification, a three-month suspension might not seem too bad, given the entry guideline was 18 months.

Turner has been an excellent ambassador for racing, and for female riders in particular, but naivety and her own internal demarcation between jockey mode and presenter mode are really no excuse for bets, however small and innocent, placed over such a long period.

Turner did not bet on any horse she rode, at any meeting she rode at, or in the periods in which she rode regularly.
