Turf Club takes no action over Byrnes three-pronged gamble

Charles Byrnes said on Thursday he was pleased the Turf Club had not "yielded to pressure from whinging bookmakers" after the regulator cleared him of any wrongdoing in its investigation into his three-pronged gamble at Roscommon last week.

Byrnes and Davy Russell lit up an otherwise ordinary fixture last Tuesday when they landed a major touch with War Anthem, Mr Smith and Top Of The Town at combined early odds of up to 4,334-1.

After each of Byrnes’ trio displayed improved form to relieve the bookmaking industry of a figure estimated to be around €5m, the Turf Club revealed it would look into the Roscommon treble.
