Triumph hope Goshen set for Chatteris Fen test while Donnacha has first runners
Goshen, the JCB Triumph Hurdle favourite with some bookmakers, is set to face three rivals in the Weatherbys Chatteris Fen Juvenile Hurdle (2.10) at Huntingdon on Friday.
The Gary Moore-trained hurdler, who is as short as 6-1 for the Cheltenham Festival contest with bet365 and no bigger than 8-1 with Hills, has to give 8lb to his three rivals.
Goshen has run away with his two starts over hurdles, winning by a combined total of 57 lengths, after notching a hat-trick on the Flat in the summer to post an unbeaten record as a three-year-old.
His chief danger looks to be Lord Lamington, who was second to Navajo Pass in the Grade 2 Summit Juvenile Hurdle at Doncaster before Christmas and is a general 33-1 chance for the Triumph in his own right.
Lord Lamington bids to provide trainer Alan King with a second win in the 2m contest after Sceau Royal scored four years ago.
Building Bridges, a course-and-distance winner in November, blotted his copybook with a fall when well beaten at Musselburgh last time and looks to make amends.
While, Newmarket trainer Mick Quinn sends Greek Kodiac down the road to make his hurdles debut. Once rated 80 on the Flat, Greek Kodiac has been disappointing recently, including when returning on the all-weather last month after being gelded.
Donnacha O'Brien, who retired after winning back-to-back Flat jockeys' titles in Ireland, starts his training career under the lights at Dundalk with two runners, both previously trained by his father Aidan and run in the colours of his mother Anne-Marie.
Mythologic, unsuccessful in eight races for the champion trainer, is ridden in the mile maiden (6.30) by 5lb claimer Gavin Ryan, who also gets the ride in the apprentice race (7.30) on Donnacha's Flower Garland.
Should O'Brien have a winner on Friday it will be a fitting start to his training career given his first success as a jockey came as a 16-year-old at the track in September 2014 when he partnered Quartz to success.
Both of Donnacha's runners are set to face two rivals trained by his brother Joseph, who began his training career with a winner when Justice Fredrick, also previously trained by his father, was successful at Gowran Park in June 2016.
One exciting horse he has to look forward to is the unbeaten Fancy Blue, who Aidan O'Brien confirmed was under Donnacha's wing after she won for the second time at the Curragh in October.
