Trainers and jockeys reflect on their team's Premier League season

On the eve of the final day of the Premier League season we asked a selection of racing personalities to reflect on their team's campaign . . .

Oliver Sherwood, Chelsea

It helped a hell of a lot not playing in Europe but they have been a joy to watch this season and some of the football has been fantastic at times. Hazard is my favourite player in the world and I've loved the enthusiasm of the manager.

Aidan Coleman, Tottenham

We've played some great football and it's nice to finally finish above Arsenal, but we still didn't win anything. You'd have to be happy looking towards next season and hopefully we can win a trophy.

Michael Bell, Manchester City

It's been relatively disappointing. The defence has been very rocky and the team has been let down by the goalkeeper on numerous occasions. If we can shore up our defence we'll be back challenging for major honours next season. There was nothing wrong with us going forward but at set pieces we were very nervous. We did play some very attractive football and scored a lot of goals.

Paul Hanagan, Liverpool

If we get the Champions League spot then we've saved it. It's such a big day. I'm a bit worried about Middlesbrough at home though, as we can't seem to beat these lesser teams, but I'm sure the fans will play their part at Anfield.

Charlie Longsdon, Everton

The season has been a mixed bag but everyone is happy with our finishing position in seventh, particularly when you look at the teams above us. We've got some great players and it will be interesting to see if we can keep hold of Lukaku.

Ed Chamberlin, Southampton

As always it was a rollercoaster but I'd have taken where we are [eighth] at the start of the season. In fact I'd have been very happy with 12th as long as we brought through some young players, which we've done. My favourite memories are the trip to St Mary's for the Inter game and then Wembley for the League Cup final against Man United. My eight-year-old son still wells up about it, and even as a 40-something I loved it and have the Saints fans singing as my ringtone.

Adrian Nicholls, Sunderland

I thought I'd give myself a nice retirement present and bought myself and my son season tickets, but it's been torture. Getting relegated was bad but Newcastle getting promoted was just as bad. We were very poor and have a couple of good players in an average squad. Defoe and Pickford were brilliant but most of the rest were not up to standard. The writing was on the wall a long way out. Hopefully we can do what Newcastle did and come straight back up.
