Tonight's racing: three runners who catch the eye from Newcastle
Newcastle provides the Flat action this evening after afternoon fixtures at Nottingham and Salisbury. The first race is at 5.30 and here are three runners to note
This looks a fiercely competitive staying handicap but Tommy Docc is worth a second look at a double-figure price.
Keith Dalgleish's gelding enjoyed a glittering three-year-old season but has been coming down the weights since. His second at Beverley last time could indicate a return to form.
The son of Thewayyouare won three races in 2015 before finishing second to Aloft in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot. Following that effort he stuck on well for third in the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy.
Improve
7.00 Newcastle
The well-named Improve ran with promise without threatening on debut at Newmarket – the race was won by subsequent Listed scorer Sheikha Reika, and the third, Maid Up, has since won the Group 3 March Stakes.
The William Haggas-trained filly returned from a break when coming with a strong late run to justify favouritism at Haydock, indicating there could be plenty more to come.
On pedigree you would think so, as Improve was bought for €150,000 as a yearling and is a half-sister to Group 1 winner heroine Persuasive, Listed scorer Tisbutadream and seven-time winner Amazour.
Eternal Destiny
7.30 Newcastle
Trainer Rae Guest has saddled three winners from his last four runners and the unexposed Eternal Destiny, a daughter of the late Poet's Voice, could be another to finish in front on her Tapeta debut.
The filly produced her best effort last time out when a two-length third at Chelmsford and there is every chance she can get off the mark at the sixth attempt under William Carson.
