Tonight's racing: three runners who catch the eye at Kempton

Kempton is the sole meeting this evening, but the course is often the starting point for a future superstar. While there is no guarantee tonight's meeting will produce one, here are three who catch the eye on the card.

Mark Of Approval
6.15 Kempton

It can perhaps be interpreted that Mark Of Approval must be showing a bit at home as owners Godolphin and trainer John Gosden continue to persevere with the four-year-old.

Since his comfortable win at Southwell in May last year, Mark Of Approval has been off the track for 507 days. His two starts marked him out as a good prospect, but it will be interesting to see how much ability he retains on his racing return. He has also been gelded during his lengthy break.

Giving Glances
8.15 Kempton

Having won on her first two starts over 1m4f, Giving Glances' winning streak came to an end when she finished eight lengths behind Fannie By Gaslight at Goodwood last month.

The three-year-old filly, trained by Alan King, may have found the 1m4f trip just stretched her on soft ground. Back on a sounder surface, she could have more improvement left in her.

Elector
8.45 Kempton

Although it looks a fascinating race, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Elector, who is owned by the Queen, is the most interesting of the five runners.

The colt is clearly well-regarded at home, given he was considered up to the standard required to contest the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, where he finished six lengths behind victor Old Persian in seventh.

He was subsequently third in a decent handicap at Newmarket and the winner Wissahickon is among the favourites for the Cambridgeshire on Saturday.

His trainer is famed for taking his time with his horses, so his best may not be seen until next season, but he is nonetheless an interesting contender at Kempton following wind surgery.
