Tonight's racing: three runners to note at Newcastle
With Sedgefield cancelled, Newcastle's seven-race card (first race at 4.10) is a very welcome addition this evening. Here are three runners to keep a close eye on
Bobby Joe Leg
5.15 Newcastle
Angela Clark's five-year-old has been knocking on the door recently and narrowly failed to turn another good performance into a winning one here last week over six furlongs.
The Ruth Carr-trained handicapper went down by a neck to Epeius in a blanket finish and, off the same mark, should have a reasonable chance of gaining compensation this evening.
Pea Shooter
5.45 Newcastle
Despite dwarfing his rivals by age, Pea Shooter lines up a leading contender for the 5f handicap. His eighth career win came last month over course and distance and he is up 3lb for that success. Jockey Callum Rodriguez has been among the winners throughout the winter and is a perfect two from two on the ten-year-old.
Rey Loopy
6.15 Newcastle
Ben Haslam has his string in flying form and Rey Loopy is the most interesting of his four runners at Newcastle.
Although fellow last time out winner Executive Force looks a big threat, Haslam can score for a sixth time on the all-weather at Gosforth Park since the turn of the year with this progressive five-year-old.
Rey Loopy boasts course form figures of 121 this year and is only up 1lb for his latest neck victory.
