Tonight's racing: three runners that catch the eye

It has been a typically action-packed Saturday with racing across both codes, and Flat fans have Chelmsford to get stuck into this evening if they're still standing after the devilishly competitive November Handicap. Here are three to watch . . .

Dubai Luxury
5.00 Chelmsford

Godolphin's British trainers go head-to-head in the second race of the evening, a novice stakes, with the Charlie Appleby-trained True Belief heading the market.

Appleby may be the one making more of the headlines at the minute after a monumental success in the Melbourne Cup with Cross Counter, but preference is for Saeed Bin Suroor's debutante Dubai Luxury.

The debutante is a half sister to four-time winner Bow And Arrow, who won over this course and distance. The trainer's string tend to do particularly well at this track.

6.00 Chelmsford

If you read Tuesday's edition of evening action you would have notided I gave Marcus Tregoning's Landue a very favourable mention for winning four of his last five starts.

He easily made it five out of six at Kempton, coasting away to win by over three lengths, and given he won over 1m5½f on his penultimate start, this step up to 1m6f doesn't rate an issue – if anything it could bring about yet more improvement.

It is easy to forget Champs Elysees sired a 1,000 Guineas winner at the start of the season with Billesdon Brook, but the sire usually produces late-maturing stayers – which is exactly what this horse is.

Young John
7.00 Chelmsford

Young John is bidding for a hat-trick after six-length victories at Leicester and Newcastle.

The five-year-old hadn't won since November 2016 before then, but the son of Acclamation had dropped to a career-low mark. Having won off 82 in the past, he should be capable of scoring again off just 75.

5lb claimer Luke Catton, who rode him last time at Newcastle, is back on board again, and his trainer Mike Murphy – indeed, solely due to this horse's exploits – is operating at a 25 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight.
