Tom Kerr succeeds Bruce Millington at the helm of the Racing Post
Tom Kerr has been appointed the new editor of the Racing Post and group racing director replacing Bruce Millington, who stepped down on Friday after 11 years at the helm.
Kerr, 31, was named Racing Writer of the Year in 2016 by the Horserace Writers & Photographers Association and steps up to editor having previously held the role of senior writer.
"I am thrilled and honoured to take over the reins at the Racing Post," Kerr said. "Racing brims with colour, drama and intrigue and I can't wait to get started leading the company's exceptional team of journalists as we expand and enhance our coverage of a wonderful sport.
"The Racing Post has a loyal but demanding readership that expects and values the highest standards of reporting, analysis and data. I am absolutely committed to meeting the needs of our customers and providing the best racing and betting coverage around, whether it's in print or on one of our digital platforms."
Alan Byrne, chief executive and editor-in-chief, praised Millington for his time as editor and said the appointment of Kerr was an exciting one for the company.
He said: “Tom is one of the outstanding journalists of his generation – at the Racing Post or anywhere else. He has made a huge impression in his nine years with our company, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues as well as the wider racing and betting industries. He is an outstanding operator in all areas, but has a particular prowess and flair for digital journalism.
“Following Bruce will be a big task, but I am certain Tom has the talent, passion and determination to do a superb job. I am greatly looking forward to working with Tom as he directs the next chapters in the evolution of the content we provide our customers, in print and digital, while also supporting other Group companies.”
Millington, 52, will remain a contributor to the Racing Post through writing his weekly column and presenting podcasts.
He said: "I am so delighted Tom is taking over the reins. It was instantly obvious when he joined the team that he was an immense talent and he has blossomed into a superb journalist and columnist. The Racing Post is in excellent hands."
