Tin Man to miss Nunthorpe in favour of Sprint Cup bid
James Fanshawe is eyeing the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock as The Tin Man's next target, rather than the Nunthorpe at York next month.
Winner of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, The Tin Man was unable to land a blow in the July Cup at Newmarket, finishing eighth behind Harry Angel.
Fanshawe said: "The best horse won but I felt The Tin Man was never really at the races. He never really got into it. It was quite close to Ascot and perhaps the Diamond Jubilee took more out of him than I thought it had."
The Tin Man is as short as 7-1 for the Nunthorpe, but Fanshawe is minded to wait until September for the 32Red Sprint Cup, a race he won in 2012 with Society Rock.
"He's very well and came out of the race in good form and we're aiming for Haydock and then Ascot [Champions Sprint]," Fanshawe added.
Fanshawe is also planning to run Northumberland Plate winner Higher Power next week in the Qatar Goodwood Cup, but does not want the ground to become too quick.
"He'd like some ease in the ground and we're on schedule to run him if the ground's suitable," Fanshawe said. "He worked nicely at the weekend and seems in good form."
