Tiger Roll could make welcome appearance at Punchestown on Sunday
Those in attendance at Punchestown on Sunday could be in for an unexpected treat as Gordon Elliott has raised the possibility of dual Grand National hero Tiger Roll galloping after racing in preparation for his eagerly-anticipated return in the Boyne Hurdle at Navan on Sunday February 16.
Tiger Roll caught everyone by surprise, including Elliott, when he bolted up in that contest at odds of 25-1 last season but, after having a small chip in a joint which was taken out in mid-November, he is reported to be even further behind in terms of fitness this time around.
Speaking at Naas on Saturday, Elliott provided an update on the superstar of the jumps game. He said: "He's in good form. If we can we might get a canter into him after racing at Punchestown tomorrow.
“We'll go to Navan next week. I don't think he'll be anything like as fit as he was for that race last year. He'll come on for the run and it's a nice stepping stone back to the National."
Tiger Roll is no bigger than 7-1 to emulate Red Rum by winning three Grand Nationals, with 7-4 the biggest price available about him making it three in a row in the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival next month.
