Three interesting runners to look out for later at Chelmsford under the lights

This eight-year-old will spawn plenty of quiz questions such has been his chequered career, including a recent run over hurdles when he fell at the last when still competitive.

Battalion has run once before here in the rearranged running of the 2016 Group 3 John Porter, and was far from disgraced. He has dropped to a rating of 99 having been as high as 111 in his pomp and is down in trip to 1m2f tonight. It is hard to see why he is the rank outsider of the field.

This Ron Harris sprinter has been well backed throughout the day. She hasn't run at the track before but loves Bath, which is not dissimilar to Chelmsford with a left-hand bend, albeit not as pronounced as at the Essex track.

The big field should ensure the strong gallop she needs, but in stall two she will be hostage to fortune with her lack of early dash before her customary strong finish. David Probert has the task of finding a way through and warmed up with a winner at Lingfield on Wednesday.

His owners' horses have lived up to their Fairy Story Partnership moniker and Betjeman is related to some of their past stars with his dam being a half-sister to the likes of Saddler's Quest, Quiz Mistress and Seren Hill. Those three were at their best over middle distances and this three-year-old steps up considerably in trip to 1m5½f having twice run over a mile and once over 1m2f to complete his statutory requirements in order to move into handicap company tonight.
