Three to look out for at Ffos Las and Chelmsford

With mixed action from Ffos Las and Chelmsford on Thursday evening, we pick out three horses worth noting

Gone Platinum6.30 Ffos Las

Fairly talented but frustrating for Henry de Bromhead, Gone Platinum proved similarly hard to win with for David Rees until he took advantage of a reduced mark at Ffos Las last time.

Under a penalty now, it remains the case that he is well treated on his best form, but old habits can die hard in the minds of punters, and the reopposing Alf 'N' Dor, runner-up to Gone Platinum last time, is not known as a winning machine, either.

Thursday cards

It will be interesting to see how the market reacts to Gone Platinum in a field that also includes Great Tempo and Le Curieux, who has good French form and was backed last time.

Dauphine Ereine7.00 Ffos Las

A French recruit in summer 2016 who has run just three times since, Dauphine Ereine has traded notably short in running on all three starts for the David Pipe yard.

She went 2.5 on her debut at Cartmel and then, off 20 months and starting at 33-1, she went 2.52 when second at Ludlow. She was a little disappointing next time at Chepstow, but still went odds-on and might have bounced a little given there was less than three weeks between races. After a month off she may build on that now, admittedly in something of a stronger race.

8.40 Chelmsford

Mick Easterby's record at Chelmsford, 18-84 in recent seasons, is one of racing's little curios, but as son and assistant David put it, "you go where the money is" and this shrewd stable are well on to Chelmsford's relatively generous pots.

Qaffaal is one such specialist round here for the yard, having won three times and been placed on a further five occasions in his nine runs at the track.

Those placed efforts include his last two course runs, one on his debut over the Chelmsford 7f, while he was ahead of the reopposing Poet's Society when they last met in March. This is not a particularly strong race for the money and Qaffaal looks as likely as any, with the possible exception of the unexposed Godolphin runner Fast Landing.
