Three runners to keep in mind under the lights at Wolverhampton

With action at Wetherby and Taunton to enjoy throughout the afternoon, Wolverhampton takes centre stage this evening. Here are three runners it might be worth keeping a close eye on.

6.30 Wolverhampton

This seven-year-old was in excellent form over this course and distance at the back end of 2018. In three starts he registered a third-placed performance sandwiched between two victories, taking his overall record at Wolverhampton to five from fourteen.

He clearly struggled on the Fibresand at Southwell on New Year's Day, but should find conditions much more agreeable on return to his preferred Tapeta. If on form after this 49-day break and handling a career-high mark of 81, he can go close.

7.00 Wolverhampton

With a record of one from 22 under rules, this five-year-old has been a frustrating type for first William Knight and now Julia Fielden. However, that record masks some decent performances that have seen the son of Equiano finish inside the first four on ten occasions.

After finishing runner-up at this course twice on his last two starts, this could be the time for a second career victory with a useful 7lb coming off thanks to apprentice Scott McCullagh.

8.30 Wolverhampton

Trained by James Tate, this daughter of Iffraaj has not been seen since making her debut in a maiden at Goodwood in May 2018. She raced keenly on that occasion and came under heavy pressure in the final furlong, eventually finishing seventh of nine.

That outing was not without any promise however, and with that particular maiden throwing up four subsequent winners, it will be interesting to see how the now three-year-old shapes on her second career start with Tom Marquand in the saddle.
