Three interesting runners worth noting at Clonmel and Chelmsford
If the Europa League is not your thing then you're in luck. Following on from afternoon meetings at Ayr, Yarmouth and Pontefract there is action at Clonmel and Chelmsford – here are three runners of note.
Ingleby Mackenzie
5.30 Clonmel
Ingleby Mackenzie has won four of his last five races for trainer Eoin Doyle and bids to continue his impressive summer campaign in the 2m3½f handicap hurdle (5.30).
The four-year-old, who was given a 10lb rise for his impressive victory at Tramore last time, steps up in trip here and clashes with course specialist You Can't Catch Me, who is also 10lb above his last winning mark.
Monumental Man
6.45 Chelmsford
Nine-year-old veteran Monumental Man bids to complete a hat-trick in the 6f handicap (6.45)
Owned by Melbourne 10 Racing, Monumental Man was last seen winning by half a length in a 6f handicap at Laytown, but the switch to a more traditional surface should not be a problem.
He is set to make his 40th all-weather appearance and looks well-placed to land his tenth success on the surface.
Auxerre
7.45 Chelmsford
Auxerre, who has made 81 fewer appearances than Monumental Man, is odds-on for the mile novice stakes at Chelmsford (7.45) after his emphatic win at Haydock in July.
Bought by Godolphin for 160,000gns, Charlie Appleby's three-year-old looked promising on his first two starts and a step up in class must be on the cards if he wins here.
His biggest rival is the John Gosden-trained Gaudi, who has also raced twice but is something of an unknown having been off the track since missing out by a short-head at Lingfield in November.
