Hidden Cyclone and co: three to watch from this evening's cards

Tonight's evening racing comes from Ayr (first race 6.10), Kempton (6.20) and Punchestown (6.00). The Racing Post pick out three horses to watch across the evening cards.

Hidden Cyclone6.30 Punchestown

It is always an unexpected pleasure to see a familiar, high-class name on an evening card and they do not come much more familiar than Hidden Cyclone, who will make his 43rd start in a competitive little chase at Punchestown. His opponents include the smart Sandymount Duke and Diamond King, who is in need of a fillip after flopping at both the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals.

Zapper Cass7.10 Ayr

In his two starts for Roger Fell, Zapper Cass competed in a higher level and was not beaten far. On taking over his training, Tony Coyle also had him in deep, this time at Chester, where he suffered interference but shaped like a horse in form. This time, he drops beneath himself to a 0-80 (he has been dropped from 83 to 82, thus becoming eligible under the new rules). He has not had a better opportunity since he arrived in Britain from France.

Makkaar9.10 Ayr

Makkaar won a maiden at Newmarket in the autumn, which is promising enough but he is trained by Mark Johnston and bred for a mile and further, so he is expected to come into his own at three. Rated 84 for this handicap debut, his pedigree points to him proving much better than that. Two of his half-siblings and his dam (who won the Dahlia Stakes) have all been rated 110 or higher on RPRs.
