The nights are drawing in but Wolverhampton is just warming to its winter season on the Tapeta with seven more Saturday fixtures before Christmas, including five in a row from early November. Here are three interesting runners this evening.

6.45 Wolverhampton

The irrepressible owners that are the Melbourne 10 could not cope with Godolphin in the all-weather championships last winter but, undaunted, they have been acquiring new talent for this year. Acrux – picked up for £15,000 out of David O'Meara's stable – could be a shrewd claim on the evidence of his impressive win at Kempton ten days ago. Nicola Currie rides the topweight again and will be hoping there will be another strong pace to aim at, which looks likely in this big field.

8.15 Wolverhampton

Archie Watson has an incredible record with his two-year-olds on turf and the all-weather, striking at over 30 per cent, and is looking to make this Lope De Vega gelding his 44th juvenile winner this year. He caught the eye on debut in a hot race at Ascot 15 days ago but has been a surprise drifter after opening as favourite.

8.45 Wolverhampton

Richard Hannon could not work the oracle with this three-year-old filly but she has been snapped up by Dominic Ffrench Davis, who is enjoying a good season with his small team, and has been the subject of a market move, cut to 10-1 from as big as 25s. The Lambourn trainer has immediately stepped the daughter of Acclamation up to seven furlongs from six and booked Shane Kelly.
