Three horses to keep an eye on at Kempton tonight
It has been a busy afternoon with four meetings in Britain and Ireland but this evening there is only one show in town – Kempton. Here are three horses worth tuning in to watch.
Tansheet
7.10 Kempton
The first two in the betting for the 1m novice stakes are owned by Sheikh Hamdan, so the fact his retained rider - and reigning champion jockey - Jim Crowley has opted for Tansheet makes him immediately of note.
Roger Varian's Neeraan has less racecourse experience, with only one run to his name, but has already achieved a higher Racing Post Rating than the William Haggas-trained son of Shamardal and carries less weight, so the fact Crowley is on Tansheet seems a significant pointer.
Belgian Bill
7.40 Kempton
The 2013 Royal Hunt Cup winner is in action in the Class 3 handicap over the same distance of a mile, and off a mark 2lb lower in the handicap he is weighted to be competitive.
The George Baker-trained nine-year-old has not been in excellent form of late but a hefty 4lb drop sees him on a mark lower than that Royal Ascot success for the first time and with subsequent wins off 100 at Meydan and off 102 in the 2015 edition of the Betfred Mile - as well as a local Group 2 success in Turkey last year - he has finally been given a chance.
Mizen Master
9.10 Kempton
Gordon Elliott's former assistant Olly Murphy has made an incredible start to his training career, predominantly over jumps, but he has not made too bad a start with his runners on the Flat - boasting a 20 per cent strike-rate with three winners from just 15 runners.
He saddles just one runner on the card this evening, with all-weather champ Luke Morris partnering Mizen Master. It is the horse's first run on the Flat for Murphy, but he has won twice in five starts over hurdles - including first time up for his new yard - and he can make it another winning first here.
