'There's only so much we can do' - Sandown clerk happy with weekend conditions

Sandown clerk of the course Andrew Cooper on Wednesday pledged to provide ground that "should be acceptable to most" for a Betfair Tingle Creek Chase that is under threat of losing some of its star names.

Nicky Henderson and Alan King have voiced concerns about whether stars Shishkin and Edwardstone will run in Saturday's Grade 1 contest because of fears the surface will be too dry.

Cooper said he was aiming for ground on the soft side of good as selective watering to part of the back straight, which began on Monday, continued in the build-up to the two-day meeting.
