The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Saturday
BANKER
Normandy Barriere(4.50 Ascot)
Second in this race last year off a mark of 92, Normandy Barriere comes back for another crack at the lady amateur riders' handicap on Ascot's card and looks to have a huge chance of going one better off a 5lb lower mark. Nigel Tinkler's seven-year-old has probably had this as his target for a while and following a string of sound defeats in much tougher races, he has returned to form with placed efforts the last twice. He has bumped into smart, younger horses both times and the return to this company is a plus. Joanna Mason gets on well with him having finished second both times they have teamed up.
EACH-WAY PLAY
Trainer Tim Easterby has won this competitive handicap for the last two years with Flying Pursuit, who is in the line-up again and is likely to be fancied, but I fancy his second string, Golden Apollo, to upset the jolly. This son of Pivotal always features at the business end of these kind of handicaps, especially at York where his form figures read 4198452053. He was well punted into 4-1 favouritism for this race last year before finishing second to his stablemate on unfavoured soft ground. That came off a mark of 94 and despite running well on numerous occasions in the interim, he is able to compete off 4lb lower today.
