'The Hannons like to target this - so her being earmarked for it says a lot'

The Hannons are synonymous with Weatherbys Super Sprint success and Queen Mary fifth Miami Girl is set to spearhead their team for the £200,000 feature at Newbury on Saturday (3.30).

Richard Hannon snr landed the valuable two-year-old contest a record seven times and Hannon jnr has followed firmly in his father’s footsteps, winning the race four times in eight years, including the last two runnings, since taking over the licence in 2014.

Miami Girl, owned by Amo Racing, has the strongest claims of Hannon’s five remaining entries in the 5f race and gained a second win from four starts in a fillies' conditions stakes at Windsor last month.

She is a 7-1 shot with Paddy Power, with the betting headed by dual novice winner Rogue Spirit at 5-2 and 7-2 second favourite Maria Branwell, who finished third in the Queen Mary.

Emily Scott, racing manager for Amo Racing, said: “Miami Girl has run to a good level and she’s progressing with every start. She’s a very talented filly and put the race to bed well at Windsor. All the experience she has will do her good in a race like this.

“It’s a big pot and the Hannons like to target the race – they know what it takes to do well in it and the fact they have earmarked her for this says a lot.”

Amo Racing, whose Symphony Perfect finished second to stablemate Gubbass in last year's race, will be double-handed with 16-1 shot Girl Magic, a soft ground maiden winner at Ayr for Alice Haynes on her second start in May, set to take her chance. The similarly-owned Go Bears Go is entered in the bet365 Hackwood Stakes on the undercard.

Scott said: “Girl Magic is a really nice filly and looked quite good at Ayr. The ground was quite testing there but she coped with it rather than needing it. She needed time after that run, which is why we sidestepped the Queen Mary, but she’s thrived for that and deserves to take her chance.”

Mojo Star provided one of the highlights of the royal meeting for Kia Joorabchian, whose horses run under the Amo Racing banner, when a half-length second to Kyprios in the Gold Cup on his return from a 256-day break.

That fine effort – a 1lb improvement on his St Leger second last year on Racing Post Ratings – means Cup races are likely to be on his agenda, with Mojo Star a general 7-2 shot for the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup on July 26.

Scott said: “He’s come out of Ascot in very good shape and we were absolutely delighted with his return. He ran an incredible race, he’s such a warrior and everything you want in a racehorse.

“He proved his stamina for two and a half miles so all the big Cup races are open to him, and the Goodwood Cup has been mentioned, but we have kept options open and left him in a few mile-and-a-half Group 1s.”

The Darley Prix Morny at Deauville on August 21 is a potential next step for star two-year-old Persian Force, who took his record to 3-4 with a ready success in the Close Brothers July Stakes at Newmarket last week.

“The manner in which he won was imperious and he's push button," said Scott. "Richard feels he will be well capable of staying seven furlongs, so that will give us options later in the season. We’re hoping he has a super chance of being a Group 1 winner for Kia.”
