Tabdeed on course for Group 1 sprint on Champions Day
Owen Burrows is eyeing the Group 1 Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes for Tabdeed after the four-year-old made a sparkling comeback at Doncaster last weekend.
The four-year-old has only ever been defeated once – in last year's Jersey Stakes – in five career outings and beat some decent rivals convincingly on Saturday. He has never won or been placed at Pattern level, but has been cut to 10-1 for the Group 1 sprint season finale at Ascot.
Burrows suggested Tabdeed could take in the Listed Garrowby Stakes at York on September 9 before Ascot. He said: "He's a very smart horse and nice to have in the yard. He has an entry in the Champions Sprint and we're looking to work back from there. It would be nice to get him in a Listed race before Ascot but it would depend on the ground.
"There is a Listed race at York and if the ground was good or softer he would start there but we won't try him on anything more than good to firm ground."
He added: "He runs well fresh so it wouldn't be the end of the world if he couldn't get a run [before Ascot] but from a novice, handicap and conditions to that [Group 1] level is a bit of a different ball game."
