Superstars return: Harry Angel and Enable out to impress

Flat favourites worthy of star billing are set to take the limelight this week with Enable, Harry Angel and Lightning Spear in action. Add in the charm of Laytown and some international flavour and we're all set for an absorbing seven days

Monday

There are five meetings on the domestic front, with racing at Brighton, Ffos Las, Roscommon, Newcastle and Windsor.

However, it's Labor Day in the US and the Del Mar Futurity (2.00) churns out a champion more often than not, with Lookin At Lucky, American Pharoah and Nyquist all on the recent roll of honour.

Step forward Roadster, the striking colt with looks eerily similar to Bob Baffert's world champion Arrogate. The promising son of Quality Road will be a short price to give Baffert his 14th win in the Grade 1 event.

The Hopeful Stakes, another juvenile Grade 1 on dirt over seven furlongs, takes place at 10.38 at Saratoga.

Tuesday

There could be a royal winner at Goodwood with Her Majesty's Calculation running in the maiden over a mile. The colt is the first foal out of Gold Cup winner Estimate, and he finished a promising third behind subsequent Solario Stakes winner Too Darn Hot on his debut.

For jumps fans, Stratford takes centre stage and so too does Wells De Lune. Peter Bowen's seven-year-old has made mincemeat of his rivals on four occasions this summer and is on a five-timer in the feature handicap chase.

Harry Angel will be bidding for back-to-back Sprint Cups on Saturday and Clive Cox is due to give the latest on his stable star at a press visit.

Wednesday

Aidan O'Brien is due to give the scoop on his St Leger contender Kew Gardens, who ran such an eyecatching race in the Great Voltigeur at York.

Joseph O'Brien will also be opening his doors ahead of the St Leger, with his Irish Derby hero Latrobe now on target for the final British Classic of the season.

Thursday

Sun, sea and subsequent Cheltenham Festival winners? Laytown's much-loved meeting kicks off at 3.45.

Keep those notebooks wedged open, as Supreme Novices' Hurdle scorer Labaik graced this card back in 2016.

Gracing us with his presence is precisely all he did however, as the grey pulled his refusing to race party trick in the maiden.

Friday

Ascot hosts an intriguing card, with some well-bred types set to be unleashed in the two novice events and the maiden.

Saturday

Saturday's action does not disappoint. Horse of the year Enable returns from injury in the September Stakes (2.05) at Kempton, where she will have to prove she is up to the same standard as last year. The Group 3 Sirenia Stakes adds extra spice to the card.

After the press conference on Wednesday, Harry Angel will be bidding to put his Ascot woes behind him in the Sprint Cup at Haydock, where he will face King's Stand winner Blue Point, Tasleet and The Tin Man.

The Listed Ascendant Stakes and Group 3 32Red Mile accompany it, whilst there is also top action at Ascot, including the Lavazza Stakes.

Sunday

Expert Eye and Lightning Spear could clash in the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp, a race which often goes some way in deciding Europe's best miler. Rock Of Gibraltar, Goldikova, Excelebration and Ribchester have all been victorious in the Group 1 in recent years.

It is also the six-day stage for the Doncaster Cup.
