Steve Harman's new role working with government on developing the levy system is to end barely a month after he stepped down as BHA chairman.

A mutual decision that Harman's job to work on racing behalf should cease has been made after the sport failed to unanimously agree his proposals for the new role.

Harman relinquished his role as chairman of the BHA in November following a crisis precipitated by his meetings with Alex Frost – the chief executive of Alizeti, which has bought a stake in the Tote – at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
