Skarino Gold, the joint top-rated German two-year-old in 2016, has been sold to continue racing in Hong Kong.

The deal was confirmed on Monday by trainer Jean-Pierre Carvalho, who said: "The horse has already left my stable and is currently in quarantine in Newmarket."

Having finished second on his debut, Skarino Gold then won a hot maiden at Dortmund and followed up with victory in Italy's premier juvenile race, the Gran Criterium at Milan. Those performances earned him a rating of 109 from the German handicapper.

Carvalho added: "On the one side we have a very good racehorse, on the other a great deal of interest and a very good offer. That is the way the racing industry functions."

German-bred horses are in demand in Hong Kong, with internet sensation Pakistan Star purchased for HK$6 million (about £600,000) at the sales earlier in the year.
