Jason Watson, the riding find of 2018, has outlined his ambitious intentions to emulate the legendary Sir Anthony McCoy by becoming champion jockey just a year after capturing the apprentice crown.

Watson received his Stobart-backed award amid the hullabaloo of Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday, when he said: "I want to be champion jockey next year."

Speaking on Sunday, the 18-year-old stressed that was no throwaway remark and that he planned an all-out assault on the title, which will be guided by super agent Tony Hind.
