Rumble Inthejungle can bounce back in Middle Park says Richard Spencer

Richard Spencer is expecting his young sprinter Rumble Inthejungle to fight back from his disappointing Doncaster defeat when lining up in Saturday's Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.

The juvenile finished 11½ lengths behind Soldier's Call in the Flying Childers Stakes – a horse he beat convincingly in the Molecomb at Goodwood – but Rumble Inthejungle hit his head on the starting stalls as the gates opened and the incident could be a possible reason for the 3-1 favourite's defeat.

Spencer said: "A few things didn’t go our way [in the Flying Childers], and that [the bump] could have been one of the reasons, but I’m not really looking into that too much.

"The horse has come back from Doncaster and seems fine at home. He’s worked well, and the lads are happy with him."

After finishing fourth in the Norfolk, Rumble Inthejungle marked himself out as a talented sprinter when surging clear of the field in the Molecomb Stakes.

He is one of 12 potential runners for the Middle Park Stakes on Saturday, and is a best priced 20-1 to hand Spencer his first Group 1 winner.

The Newmarket-based trainer added: "I think you need to put a big line through his run at Doncaster and hopefully we can make amends this week.

"We scoped him after the race and everything seemed fine with him. He’s done a bit of fast work on Saturday and pleased us, so it’s all systems go for the Middle Park this weekend.

"Hopefully it stops raining and it will be a dry week and we can go to the race with a good chance."

The two-year-old, who was an impressive maiden winner at Newcastle, was described as a 2,000 Guineas hope earlier in the year but suffered an eye injury on his last start.

Spencer said: "Louis Treize banged his head in the stalls and bruised his eye in the process at Doncaster. We’re putting his below par run down to that, but he did well to finish where he did.

"He has been receiving treatment since the race and his eye is nearly back to normal. He’s been on the horse walker but still hasn’t been ridden since.

"We’d love to get another run in to him before the season is out but it’s not the end of the world if he doesn’t."
