Spanish visitors join hundreds of locals as Epsom opens its doors

A family from Madrid were among the 1,000 or so visitors who enjoyed the many and varied delights of the Epsom trainers’ open day, which was held before racing on a warm, sunny morning.

Joaquin Garcia and his family of five were just too late to see Rishi Persad commentate as a handful of horses from each of the town’s ten stables worked on Epsom’s sand gallop.

However, they took full advantage of the bus service laid on to shuttle visitors from one stable to another before making their way to the racecourse, where a pony race, a series of children's running races, plus a zip wire, a high ropes course, inflatable slides and a petting zoo were among the many attractions.
