Six juveniles to note for Newbury's big prize
Saturday's Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury offers a big prize for juveniles and can be a lucrative payday for connections who spent modestly.
With the weights partly determined by the prices paid at the sales, talented types who didn't break the bank can win big, like last year's victor Mrs Danvers, who had only 8st on her back.
David Baxter picks out six to keep an eye on for this season's race.
De Bruyne Horse
Weight 9st 4lb, Sales Price £50,000
An obvious starting place, Richard Hannon's colt has built up a strong profile, winning the Woodcote before finishing eighth in the Coventry then fourth in the Group 2 Railway Stakes last time.
Although he does have topweight, the Hannon team have a great record in the race, with snr winning the race seven times between 1992 and 2009, before Tiggy Wiggy gave Hannon his own success in 2014.
9st 1lb, €65,000
A Goodwood maiden winner who was under consideration for Royal Ascot, Clive Cox elected to miss that meeting with the colt and could be rewarded here.
The bare form of that win is not spectacular, but given how Cox's juveniles are performing this season, further improvement would be no surprise.
8st 8lb, £38,000
Finding juveniles who have managed to handle a penalty and follow up this season has not been easy, but this filly is unbeaten after wins at Beverley and Catterick.
Showers forecast at the track this week could help Time Trail, as trainer Michael Dods felt the ground was quick enough for her last time at Catterick, and could be nicely weighted.
8st 6lb, €36,000
Richard Fahey has eight to choose from in the race, and this filly is the shortest in the betting of his challengers.
Like De Bruyne Horse, she has a solid profile, finishing runner-up in the Hilary Needler and was then second again last time out in the Listed Empress Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket. There is a lot to like about her chances.
8st 7lb, €11,000
Another Richard Fahey contender, this colt has done well in novices after a debut win, finishing runner-up twice.
A tough sort, he will probably need to find a bit more, but makes each-way appeal.
8st 5lb, €30,000
Progressing nicely in her three starts to date, this filly won comfortably at Lingfield last time, giving the impression she has more to offer.
Trainer William Haggas is doing very well with his two-year-olds this season, and knows what it takes to win the race, having done so in 2008 with Jargelle, and One For June is his only entry.Super Sprint card
