Newmarket has played around with its end-of-season programme a bit in the last few years, but it came as something of a surprise to notice a few tweaks on the course's website for its fixture on September 30.

Outlining the running order for Betfred Cambridgeshire day, Newmarket has the big handicap being staged over six furlongs, while the Juddmonte Royal Lodge has been reduced to seven furlongs from a mile and the Juddmonte Cheveley Park finds itself increasing by two furlongs to a mile.

The Dikler is bemused by such drastic measures, but suspects this is a case of mistaken identity rather than another attempt to improve its autumn attractions.
