One of Sir Peter O'Sullevan's closest friends believes the late broadcasting giant would have liked to see a racing family take ownership of his Chelsea home, which has gone on the market with an asking price of £2.5 million.

All proceeds from the sale of the property, which is available for the first time in nearly 50 years, will go to the BBC icon's charitable trust, which has already received a huge financial boost after being entrusted with the majority of the £8.9 million left in its founder's will.

Estate agents Henry & James have been charged with selling the first floor Cranmer Court apartment, which is made up of two flats bought separately by O'Sullevan that were transformed into one spacious home.
