Futurity sponsor John Dance embarrassed as just one trainer opposes O'Brien
The sponsor of Saturday's Vertem Futurity Trophy has used the words "hugely disappointing" and "embarrassing" in reaction to seeing only one British-trained juvenile left to withstand up to 11 Aidan O'Brien-trained challengers in the Doncaster showpiece.
O'Brien has won the last two runnings of the British season's final Group 1 and is a red-hot favourite to win it again, having also given himself a clear opportunity to overhaul John Gosden in the British trainers' championship.
Only a handful of bookmakers have so far been prepared to offer prices, with Leopardstown Group 2 winner Mogul 4-7 with William Hill and 2-5 elsewhere. Stable companion Innisfree can be backed at
4-1, with Qatar Racing's Andrew Balding-trained Kameko – the only potential runner not trained by O’Brien – on offer at 6-1, half the price of his Ballydoyle-based Royal Lodge Stakes conqueror Royal Dornoch.
