'She's obviously very talented' - unbeaten Juddmonte filly set Doncaster target
Unbeaten Juddmonte filly Haskoy is set to be among the star prospects to grace the second day of Doncaster’s St Leger meeting next month, with connections describing her as “obviously very talented” following her Listed win at York last week.
The first foal of former Juddmonte filly Natavia, Haskoy won a 1m4f novice at Wolverhampton by seven lengths on her debut last month before belying her inexperience to beat Time Lock by a neck in the Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes over the same distance.
A step up to Group 2 company beckons for Haskoy, with the Coral Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes over 1m6½f on September 8 – a race trainer Ralph Beckett landed with Simple Verse and Alyssa in 2016 and 2017 – being targeted.
Juddmonte’s racing manager Barry Mahon said: “She’s only been in training since June and went to Wolverhampton as a relatively unknown quantity. Ralph and the team liked her but she was well short of work and won in breathtaking fashion.
“We deliberated hard about going to York but decided to roll the dice and she’s obviously very talented. The Park Hill could be a good fit – Ralph mentioned it over the weekend and that’s her likely target. She’s a beautiful filly and if she progresses she could end up anywhere. She’s bred to be a top-end mile-and-a-half to mile-and-six filly.”
Chaldean took his record to 2-3 with a gritty win in the Acomb Stakes at York, with the Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket on September 24 among options for the Andrew Balding-trained colt.
The son of Frankel, who is a general 20-1 shot for next year’s Qipco 2,000 Guineas, is a rare non-homebred for Juddmonte having been bought for 550,000gns as a foal from Whitsbury Manor Stud in November 2020.
Mahon said: “He stayed seven furlongs well and I loved the way he battled back and hit the line so strongly. Ryan Moore felt he’d have no problem stepping up to a mile. His form is very strong from his Newbury maiden win – the second, third and fourth won next time, and Silver Knott [fourth at Newbury] gave it another boost by landing the Solario.
“We’re yet to have a chat with Andrew and will probably put up a few options to the Abdullah family later in the week, but the Royal Lodge, in which he’s entered, will have to come under consideration.”
