Shanpallas absence sees Riches shorten for repeat Plate win

Shanpallas will not have a third crack at TheTote.com Galway Plate on Wednesday after trainer Charles Byrnes removed the JP McManus-owned gelding from the €220,000 contest at yesterday's forfeit stage after his work had been substandard.

A total of 36 horses remain in the race, headed by runaway 2014 winner Road To Riches, who is clear favourite after the defection of Shanpallas.
