Shamardal: front-running champion who was a star on track and then as a stallion

During his brief career on track, Shamardal was a brilliant champion at two and a superstar at three before a career-ending injury intervened, meaning the colt raced only seven times.

That he made it to the racecourse at all could be considered a minor miracle, as Shamardal suffered multiple health issues early in life. This resulted in him only fetching 50,000gns at Tattersalls in October 2003, where he was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed's Gainsborough Stud.
