Scottish Racing has unveiled a new sister organisation that will give guidance and training for those wishing to begin or further their careers in the industry.

The Scottish Racing Academy will collaborate with schools and colleges across Scotland and recruit anyone who wishes to gain essential skills and academic qualifications, develop their riding and gain knowledge of the vast range of careers within racing.

Delly Innes, Manager of Scottish Racing, said: "Scotland is renowned for having some of the most hard-working and dedicated staff in racing.

"We believe our collaboration with schools and colleges will make it easier for many more people to train for a wide range of career opportunities available in our sport."

The qualifications will be delivered as part of the National Curriculum for Excellence at all nine schools in the Scottish Borders and encourage young people to complete a racing-specific, horse care qualification while studying in their senior phase at school.

Students can then continue their learning journey by undertaking various horseracing National Qualifications at either Borders College or Scotland’s Rural College.

Cue Card among legends appearing at Cheltenham

A band of much-loved former racehorses, including Cue Card and Coneygree, will parade in front packed grandstands on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday.

Besides Coneygree and Cue Card, other festival winners in the parade organised by Retraining of Racehorses (RoR), which is again sponsored by the Sir Peter O'Sullevan Charitable Trust, include Captain Chris, Dodging Bullets, Master Minded, The New One and Zarkandar.

Di Arbuthnot, chief executive of RoR, said: "In terms of what they have achieved in their racing careers and also in their second careers, I think this year's line-up is probably the strongest we've ever had.

"Not only does the parade boast nine Grade 1 winners, including a Gold Cup winner, two Champion Chase winners and an Arkle winner, but their feats in their second careers are notable too.
