Time ran out this year for Economic Crisis to continue her love affair with Scotland so today she bids to gain a first win south of the border on her 100th career start.

The eight-year-old Excellent Art mare is at least twice the age of her seven rivals in the 32Red.com Fillies Handicap (6.45) at Newcastle but is in the form of her life since returning to trainer Alan Berry after he resumed his training career last month.

They have squeezed in two more wins at Musselburgh this autumn to double the mare's score at the country's east coast track to go with seven successes at Hamilton.

"I am hoping to get my name back up in lights with her and she will run well," said Berry, who found prices high at the Doncaster Sales so is still looking to add to his dozen in training.

"She tends to run in Scotland as her joint-owner owner Willie Burns lives in Scotland but she is in such good nick we are running for the first time at Newcastle before she goes on her holiday and hopefully coming back into training next year," Berry added.

Economic Crisis proved a bargain buy at 5,000 euros for Berry in 2010 and he remembers: "That was at Tattersalls in Ireland and she was a little thing then – she hasn't grown much – but it doesn't matter how big they are if they have a big heart like she has."

James Sullivan has the chance to make it a fourth win on the mare but knows his hardest job will be getting her to the start.

Berry added: "She has frightened a few jockeys going to the start and in the stalls – she is mounted coming onto the course but has a licence to go into the stalls last with her aversion to them."
