Scarpeta bidding to prove dual-purpose star for Mullins

Willie Mullins is responsible for by far the two most interesting horses running at Killarney on Tuesday evening.

The first, Scarpeta, has been plying his trade over hurdles all winter and returns to the Flat in the 2m1f handicap (8.10) off a rating of 75 under Colin Keane.

A winner of three races on the Flat for Mark Johnston a couple of seasons ago, Scarpeta was a good fourth in the Ballymore Properties Novices' Hurdle behind Samcro at Cheltenham but was pulled up in a Grade 1 novice hurdle at Punchestown on his final start of the jumps season.

Victory could open up the door for the five-year-old having a profitable dual-purpose summer.

Law Girl also grabs the attention for the champion jumps trainer in the concluding 1m6f contest (8.40).

A winner on the Flat in France, she failed to build on a maiden hurdle success at Roscommon last July but looks to have plenty in her favour on her return to the Flat.

Can Camile complete hat-trick?

Camile landed some decent wagers on just her second start for Joseph O'Brien when landing a Navan handicap over a mile last month before following up in good style at Gowran Park six days ago.

The five-year-old has been raised 16lb since getting back to winning ways at Navan and, despite that massive rise, such was the ease of her latest victory that plenty of punters will fancy the five-year-old's chances of completing her hat-trick in Killarney's Dublin Coach Handicap (7.40) over a mile.

Maxwell out to make a late bid for title

David Maxwell looks to have been found a decent opportunity to add to his tally in the 2017-18 male amateur jump jockeys' championship on board former top-notcher Unioniste, who faces just three rivals in the Smarkets Open Hunters' Chase (5.20) at Wincanton.

Maxwell, who bought the ten-year-old privately last year to run at this level, is on eight winners in the title race which concludes next month – three shy of leader Lorcan Williams.

Unioniste and his amateur jockey scored three times in the hunter chase ranks last winter, including at this venue, and ran a decent race when seventh in the Foxhunters' at Aintree last time.

A Listed scorer and Grade 2-placed in his younger days, Unioniste is the winner of ten of his 32 starts over jumps and nearly £250,000 in prize-money.

Trainer Paul Nicholls said: "Unioniste is not what he was obviously and is a bit of a law unto himself, but he seems to get on well with David, who is hoping to be thereabouts in the championship when it ends at Stratford on June 8.

"He ran well at Aintree and this looks another nice opportunity for him."

Overland bidding to go one better

Nicholls also appears to have a decent chance earlier in the afternoon with Overland Flyer, who also faces three opponents in the Smarkets Novices' Chase (3.50).

The former point-to-pointer was having his first start over regulation fences when runner-up to Mighty Leader at Newton Abbot just six days ago but has thrived since.

Nicholls added: "Overland Flyer ran well the other day but found Newton Abbot a bit sharp for him. He's come out of that well and this looks a nice chance for him."
