Davy Russell has given the new Industry Assistance Programme, to be funded by Horse Racing Ireland, the thumbs-up and believes the helpline and advice provided will supply invaluable support for those going through tough times.

The scheme, which was launched at Galway this week, is designed to improve the wellbeing of the 14,500 staff working in the industry. It comes just over three weeks after Kieren Fallon announced his retirement from the saddle due to severe depression.

The new initiative will provide around-the-clock support through a range of confidential services, including a 24/7 telephone support line and an online resource centre with a live help option for many practical issues. These could include legal and financial advice, grief counselling, parenting advice, healthy eating suggestions and crisis management.
