Jean-Claude Rouget was left happy after La Cressonniere cemented herself as France’s leading hope of winning the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe with a straightforward defeat of four rivals in the Prix de la Nonette at Deauville.

That three of them – including a pacemaker – were also trained by Rouget shouldn’t be allowed to detract from the dominance shown by La Cressonniere, whose pre-race best price for the Arc of 12-1 was replaced with near-unanimous quotes of 8-1.

Rouget’s post-race debrief was a strangely reserved affair but Cristian Demuro, who has already bagged the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches and the Prix de Diane Longines aboard the Le Havre filly, was more than ready to sing La Cressonniere’s praises.
