Ronan Whelan has been banned for six days by the referrals committee of the IHRB for whip offences. The ban will start on July 3.

Whelan, who had three previous whip offences since the new rules in Ireland came into effect in April, was referred to the IHRB by the stewards at the Curragh on June 7 after winning the Silver Stakes on Guaranteed. He was found to be in breach of the new regulations.

Also banned for six days for a whip offence was apprentice Joe Sheridan, whose ban will also start on July 3.

The 7lb claimer was referred to the IHRB after finishing second on Machiavelli in a 1m4f handicap at Fairyhouse on Friday.

Sheridan had also been referred over his use of the whip on Kerosin, winner of a 2m handicap, at Navan on June 8. However, the referrals committee was satisfied he was not in breach of the regulations on that occasion.

Trainer Robert Tyner has had two horses – Midnight Stroll, who won a handicap hurdle at Cork on January 5 this year, and Blast Of Koeman, who won a hurdle race at Punchestown on December 31 last year – disqualified after they tested positive for prohibited substances.

Routine samples taken from Midnight Stroll were found to contain dexamethasone while Blast Of Koeman tested positive for tetramisole. Tyner was fined €1,000 in each case.

In his evidence Tyner explained that Midnight Stroll had been treated with an oral mixture for a mild throat infection and that he had stopped administering it seven days prior to the race. However, a member of staff had administered the oral mixture to Midnight Stroll in error on the evening of January 4.

In the case of Blast Of Koeman, Tyner explained that the product containing tetramisole was being administered to a different horse on his premises but was instead mistakenly given to Blast Of Koeman.
