Romanised set for Hong Kong swansong as Ken Condon eyes Dundalk warm-up
Ken Condon is preparing 2018 Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Romanised for a swansong in the Far East next month, with the entire possibly attempting to end his career on a high note in the Longines Hong Kong Mile.
Romanised, who landed back-to-back runnings of the Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh this year, is set to warm up for the Group 1 target at Dundalk on November 16 in a conditions race over a mile.
The five-year-old failed to fire when last seen in the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp in September, but Condon has been pleased with the son of Holy Roman Emperor at his Osborne Lodge base since.
"He was freshened up after the Moulin when he ran flat, but it was a bit of a funny race and some horses just struggled to get into it," he said of the Robert Ng-owned performer.
"If he shapes well at Dundalk we'll look towards the Hong Kong Mile and if he doesn't we won't be. He seems well and we're happy with him. The horse looks a picture so we'll let him do the talking."
The Classic-winning trainer added: "It'll be his final start as his stud career beckons, with details of that side of things becoming clear over the next few weeks."
It's been an excellent season for Condon, earning €486,745 in domestic prize-money, which is more than in any other campaign since taking out his licence in 2002.
Condon's admirable two-year-old Miss Amulet also went down fighting when third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday.
He said of the £7,500 yearling purchase: "We were delighted with her. She's run a big race after a busy season and is extremely reliable as well as being talented. I'm sure we'll have plenty to look forward to next season."
