Richard Kingscote makes Haydock history aboard the Queen's Calculation
Richard Kingscote had plenty to celebrate on his 33rd birthday after becoming the most prolific winning jockey of the modern era at Haydock when partnering the Queen's Calculation to victory on Friday.
Kingscote registered his 105th win at the Lancashire course on the Sir Michael Stoute-trained 11-10 favourite in the 1m6f three-year-old handicap to surpass former champion jockey Kevin Darley with what was also a first success in Her Majesty's famous colours.
Stable jockey to Cheshire-based trainer Tom Dascombe, Kingscote has been a punters' pal at Haydock, with an 18 per cent strike-rate (105-575) and with a £1 level stakes profit of £80.41.
"It's nice to do something that shows I'm capable of doing my job and to be the winningmost jockey at a particular track is something I can be proud of," he said.
"Whenever Haydock is on I'm there as Tom loves to have runners. It's a fair track and I've had plenty of practice and once I got to 100 winners last year, I'd been counting down to Kevin Darley's record."
Dascombe said: "It's a fantastic achievement. We've been here for 12 years or so and every year he's been leading jockey at Haydock. He knows the track better than anyone else and rides with supreme confidence."
To mark the occasion, Kingscote, whose two Group 1 victories came on Brown Panther in the 2014 Irish St Leger and Havana Grey in last year's Flying Five Stakes, was presented with a candlestick by clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright.
"It's a great achievement by Richard and it's nice he's done it with a winner for the Queen," said Tellwright. "I bought a pair of candlesticks for him and gave him one when he brought up the hundred and the other was waiting for today."
